Meet Dr. Kothari

Dr. KothariDr. Hemali Kothari is passionate about transforming smiles and building relationships with her patients. She is a board-certified craniofacial orthodontist with extensive experience in treating patients of all ages and children with special needs.

Education

Dr. Kothari completed her undergraduate education at Arizona State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Following college, she earned her Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) and Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Dr. Kothari graduated at the top of her class and went on to complete the postgraduate orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedics program and earned a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and a Doctorate in Health Education (DHEd).

Board Certification

Dr. Kothari showed her commitment to provide the highest level of patient care, by undergoing the rigorous process of becoming a board-certified orthodontist. This certification required hundreds of hours of preparation to demonstrate that she can provide exceptional treatment outcomes. She was proud to earn the distinction of a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. This honor is bestowed on only 40% of practicing orthodontists!

Professional Experience

Dr. Kothari’s passion lies in helping those who need it most and this led her to serve as one of the only Cleft and Craniofacial Orthodontists in the state of Arizona! At the Barrow Cleft and Craniofacial Center in Phoenix, she gained numerous years of specialized experience in treating patients with cleft lip and palate, craniofacial differences, trauma, and orthognathic jaw surgery. Beyond the hospital, she has over a decade of private practice experience treating both, children and adults with braces and Invisalign in Arizona!

As an accomplished researcher and teacher, Dr. Kothari has published several peer reviewed articles in prestigious orthodontic journals on topics including special needs dentistry and orthodontic business practices. She has lectured her peers on early childhood orthodontic treatment, multidisciplinary treatment planning, and nasoalveolar molding, amongst other topics. She truly enjoys giving back to her profession!

To stay current on the latest advancements in orthodontics, Dr. Kothari is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association.

In her spare time, Dr. Kothari enjoys spending time with her husband and two young boys. The Kothari family enjoys being outdoors, listening to music, hiking, and traveling.
