What to Expect for Your First Visit to Our Office

h-pediatric1Did you know that cavities can occur at a very young age?

That's why the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see a pediatric dentist when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. When decay begins in baby teeth it spreads differently than in adult teeth, so it's important to perform an age appropriate risk assessment to catch decay early. If caught early enough, the decay process of certain incipient cavities may actually be reversed. Restorative treatment options are significantly less invasive when decay is caught early. Dr.  Cohen is committed to educating every parent and child about the causes of tooth decay, the proper exposure of fluoride, the role of diet and age appropriate hygiene habits.

Dr. Cohen and his dedicated staff pay special attention to your child's comfort and convenience. That's why we feel that it's important for parents to prepare their children for their first visit. Negative experiences can be avoided with simple distraction and Dr. Cohen has great success in relaxing patients, and their anxious parents. Our office doesn't look or feel like a dental office so kids are comfortable when they come in, and our great selection of children's movies will help take their minds off the dentistry. We encourage you to speak to us for more information on how to prepare your child for their first dental visit to ensure a happy, positive experience.
